Biography: BORN IN SPAIN, THE ARTIST CRISTINA FERRER GOES BY THE PSEUDO-NAME OF MAYACOA. HER DESIRE FOR PAINTING TOOK SHAPE AT A VERY EARLY AGE. FROM 1987-1990 MAYACOA STUDIED FINE ARTS IN LLEIDA AND BARCELONA, WHILE COLLABORATING IN DIFFERENT SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS, SHE GAINED EXPERIENCE IN OTHER BACKGROUNDS INCLUDING, PUBLISHING, INTERIOR DESIGN, GRAPHIC DESIGN, ILLUSTRATION AND ARCHIVAL RESTORATION. IN 1994 SHE MOVED TO SAN FRANCISCO WHERE SHE PARTICIPATED IN A VARIETY OF SOLO AND GROUP ART EXHIBITS, WHILE CONTINUING HER EDUCATION IN FINE ARTS AND WITHIN A SHORT WHILE BEGAN HER TRANSITION INTO FILM, EARNING HER A FILM DEGREE IN 2002, DURING THIS TIME SHE COMPLETED 3 SHORT FILMS THAT WERE VIEWED AT DIFFERENT FESTIVALS AND VENUES. IN THE LAST FEW YEARS SHE HAS BEEN WORKING AS AN ART CONSULTANT FOR OTHER ARTIST. MAYACOA’S WORK HAS BEEN DONATED TO DIFFERENT INSTITUTIONS SUCH AS “THE BUDDHIST CHURCH OF SAN FRANCISCO” AND “DIABLO BALLET”. MAYACOA IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON A NEW COLLECTION OF PAINTINGS CALLED “THE NATURE OF MIND” AND IS LOOKING FORWARD TO AN OPENING OF HER OWN IN THE NOT TOO DISTANT FUTURE.
