At an early age I was given pieces of paper and a pencil (to keep me quiet) in Chapel and I began by drawing portraits of people around me. My captive sitters became interested and I was always fascinated by their responses - not always kind - to my drawings. Ever since, I have been hooked on trying to capture that fleeting disclosure of my sitter's inner essence. I paint quickly so as not to 'lose the moment'. This year I am painting 20 men (The Mayan Count: 20 days in a week)to balance the 20 women I painted to celebrate the beginning of the New Millenium. This has been a journey celebrating these ordinary/extraordinary people who live in Wales at this time.
