Biography: Chris Zarb, 32, is a self-taught artist with a strong sense of identity. He produces works of outstanding originality in both concept and technique. With no direct influences, he produces works that are pure creations of his own personal vision. His first attempts at drawing were based on his surroundings which stimulated his imagination. Chris began to draw and paint mostly human figures, adding an imaginative theme to them. The artist takes us in a journey into the dark and unexplored recesses of the soul. His paintings dwell on the expressions of the human figure and the world of illusion and imagination which knows no bounds. He adds a touch of melancholy, imbuing life into his works with his array of vivid colours. He is splendidly able to incorporate different emotions in his works where happiness and sadness can be felt in equal measures. Both beauty and freedom are symbolised by the naked allure of his mostly winged human figures. The wings represent a voyage to perfection and devine aura which may very well symbolise one’s deep-seated wish to slip away from one’s destiny. His creations seem caught between two opposing worlds, clashing reality against fantasy. Chris Zarb transports his subjects from a point where they are unwittingly tied to this world on to a concept of dreams and wish fulfilment.
