I see things differently than the rest. Where many see an old house, historical landmark, or even a fun memory, I see character, struggles, defining moments, highlights, milestones, good times and bad. In other words, I see life. I try to capture these moments on canvas and create happy memories for my viewers.
Biography: Through the use of a color palette composed of primary colors plus black and white, the layering of those select colors, and a free expressive style, I am able to take the viewer on a journey, an insightful, "soulful" journey into the past. Art attracted me at an early age. After success in some elementary school art contest, I decided to make art a career following taking an art class my senior year in high school. With influences around me saying the only way to make a living at art was through graphic design, I pursued and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in graphic design from Northeast Louisiana University in 1986. Although I did secure a job as a graphic designer, the work left me feeling shallow and unfulfilled. With the desire to make a difference in the world, I spent 14 years teaching elementary, middle and high school art. Although being highly successful in the classroom and guiding multiple art contest winners, there was still something missing, the freedom to create my own work. A new style had emerged during my time in the classroom which combined my graphic design and rendering skills with the depth of color flowing from my soul. Now I am able to express and share my gift of insight and painting with a much wider audience.
