I try and capture honest human emotion and conditions that lie deep within our over sophisticated exteriors, at our cores I feel that evolutional and procreation are a footing in which we make ourselves what we are. I first started painting in 1994 whilst living on a council estate in Ashton-Under-Lyne where I had lived for 18 years. I had little money so I found cheap materials to use. Rather than canvas, I would use hardboard and I would thin my oil paint using vegetable oil. The cheap brushes I bought from the local market and bargain shops would lose bristles whilst I was painting. On many of my earlier paintings these bristles can still be seen. I have developed techniques whilst using these materials which, rather than stifling and compounding, have both aided and improved my style to the present day. As an artist I can truly express myself in the images I create. I am influenced by the way others and myself behave. I am constantly asking the question of existence and forever trying to answer the meanings of behaviour. I take raw human characteristics, then create an image attempting to explain why we behave the way we do. The smooth blended colours, the human-like twisting soft fleshy forms, the absence of straight lines, the subtle skyscapes accompany harsh narratives. The narratives are often disguised either visually or in meaning. Pleasing composition leads the eye over and around telling body language which often unearths a disturbing, brash and garish undercurrent.
