ARTIST'S STATEMENT Since 1975 I have been studying academic drawing and painting.While continuing my art studies at the Mukhina Art Institute,St.Petersburg I became increasingly interested in and inspired by "expressionist" works of the 20-th century.The influence of the expressionists I believe was derived from the art forms of the early middle ages:both attempt to express the condition of the human soul. My interest is with the use of colour and texture in expressionist painting and drawing.I consider myself as a colourist:using the juxtaposition of different gammas to explore my feelings about a chosen subjects,moods or abstract concepts,dynamic movements,tension and mystery. Often in my water-colours and gouaches the design may almost disappear and the work approaches abstract painting,or abstract "expressionism".However,I am not an abstract painter.I believe the "objects"of our reality are in themselves meaningful and I try to elucidate the "true meaning" or one of the true "meanings" of my subjects by revealing one or more aspects of their nature.Some subjects may be from own fantasy or of concrete objects and landscapes that surround us. At this time of my life my interest in "subject matter and content" tends towards a general expression of man in motion in the universe and the invironment of our own making:dwelling places,places of worship to evoke the spiritual,emotional and psychological intensity of our world in transformation and ourselves in transfiguration.
Biography: Rouslan Natmirzoff was born in Kamchatka Peninsula .He grew up in Vladikavkaz, Northern Caucasus,where he graduated Art College as Artist -decorator in 1979. Later he moved to Saint-Petersburg where he studied and worked.He gained Masters Degree of Industrial design in Mukhina Higher School of Art and Design in St Petersburg in 1987. Rouslan immigrated to Canada in 1992.There he was teaching Fine Arts in different Art schools and as a private teacher.He is the author of a number of illistrations in Russian papers issued in Canada.He worked as a theatre artist ,doing a number of backstage decorations for performances.He has created many Ceramics and Mural works in Ontario region as well. He had two "One man shows" in "Four Corners Gallery",1997 and in "Wellington Gallery",2001,in Ottawa.Rouslan has international experience.There are his works on display in Germany,USA,United Kingdom ,Canada,Russia,Bulgaria. He is a figurative artist.As a painter he puts emphasis on colour and expression. He is mainly influenced by European Medieval art and Twentieth century expressionism. The artist believes that the art work has no need to be explained.
