Realism and the human figure compel me the most in my work, although I try to include surprising and/or graphic elements where I can. My portfolio consists of mainly oil paintings, but includes some drawings and photolithographic prints as well. As I developed as a painter in college, my work evolved towards a more specific study of the female figure as represented in fashion magazines and lingerie catalogues. Using a James Rosenquest-style cutout technique, I juxtaposed the figures with scenes of gears and mechanics in an attempt to showcase their departure from realistic human beauty. I've been on a bit of a hiatus since that series and the end of school, but I would like to continue along that same thread of ideas and techniques as I create new paintings.
Biography: I am a recent graduate of the University of Notre Dame where I majored in Studio Art and minored in cultural anthropology. I am 22 years old and currently live in Bloomfield Hills, MI, though I'll be moving to New York City in July 2006. I work at an interactive advertising agency called Organic, Inc. where I am absorbing as much as I can about the professional world, which is still quite foreign to me. I discover more new ideas/people/art every day via my neverending internet search. My family is very important to me and I love music, fashion, great conversation, and humor.
