From the outset, I have concentrated on developing my skills as a figurative painter with the emphasis on a traditional classical style and a limited palette. My main aim is to bring atmosphere and soul to my work whilst still conveying sense of tone and form in a clean and simple way.
I would say my influences stretch from the honesty of Lucien Freud’s’ work, the luminosity of Caravaggio to the atmospheric photographs of Alfred Steiglitz.
Born in Edinburgh in 1971, I trained at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee, Scotland and, in 1994, won the Elizabeth Greenshields Award. Since then I have been exhibiting solo shows annually in London and have many paintings in collections all over the UK.
