Steph Wallace's quirky ceramics are inspired by the moments when the imagination is left to its own devices, working in earthenware and commercial stains, Steph creates characters who explore the fun, frivolity and often fears rooted in these flights of fancy. Expressed in the form of vibrant figurative sculpture, her work captures the unusual in the mundane and ridiculous in the everyday which is perceived when we allow ourselves these moments of comic refection. "my work is like a filter on my life, the things I do, see and the people around me are all passed through this filter. I use my work as a way of first sorting, and them expressing the way I feel about the world around me, be that a place, person or relationship."
Biography: Originally from the UK, Steph studied first at Leeds College of Art and Design and then gained a B.A in ceramics from Edinburgh College of Art in 2002. Since then she has spent time travelling and working within community arts throughout the U.S.A and now lives and works in Australia.
