A love of nature and the beauty of the land and sea are one of the major reasons why I create art. A love of sensitive mark making through drawing and through to painting, underpins my interest in making pictures. I try to recognize the truth in what I see, the true spirit of a place or subject and let it tell me what is important. It is always a temptation to be romanced by inventive ideas and concepts but I have found most success in my work relates to honest, direct, concentrated looking, working with an open attitude to the visual truth. My paintings are usually areas of personal interest and/or places I have visited and been moved by. They have included coastline by my hometown of Lytham St Annes, the Dorset and Hampshire coastlines as well as the Lake District and the Dorset countryside.
Biography: Timothy Gent BA, born in Blackpool, Lancashire in 1977. Brought up on the Lancashire coast, my teenage years formed my decision to become an artist. Evidencing a natural drawing talent, I studied at Blackpool Art College before studying a different discipline at Reading University for my BA. The flame that burns in the artist's heart was never extinguished and I returned to full time painting, as a professional artist in 2006.
