My work is my way of making sense of the world around me. It is like a personal, growing, visual language, a way to explore and communicate thoughts and ideas. I take inspiration from everywhere; popular culture, nature, people, music, design - whatever I come across on a daily basis. It is important to me to make work that I find beautiful, even if it is not obviously so. I am interested in colour, form, pattern, materials; experimenting with the decorative and applying a different, personal meaning. I work in a variety of media, mainly drawing, painting, installation, photgraphy and embroidery. I like to be spontaneous in the way that I work, and I like to see the evidence of things being handmade, and not too slick. Often the mistakes are the elements that work the best, and are the most exciting. I am not always sure why I make a piece of work, all I know is that I feel compelled to do so, and that it gives me a great feeling. Hopefully the work will make the viewer feel something too.
