My art is a step by step expression of my transforming and evolving spirit. I have been asked many times of how would I describe my stile of painting, on which I could not find an answer for a long time. It was very hard for me to chose between genres, since my paintings were very diverse and I had no preferences in stile. Soon after I realized that my art is a pure expression of my transforming ‘Self’ as an ‘I’ evolving being in an unlimited space. I have found my paintings to leap in-time as a prediction of my future as well. Now when looking at some of my paintings from years ago, I finally find the connection between my hand and my higher self.
I mostly work with oil paints and am very fond of colors and textures, thus my favorite tool for expression is a pallet knife. While my study at the Academy Of Fine Arts in Tbilisi Georgia, I was forced to use a brush as my main instrument for painting. But a pallet knife still remains the key to my creations. It brings the subconscious visibly alive through colors and textures on canvas.
I rarely have in mind what I am about to create. My technique has taken a very spiritual turn, in which I allow the colors to manifest my psyche. As we evolve through the (unknown)=forgotten, and evolution has it’s own stages, so is my art ever changing it’s stile In-Time. I go from phase to phase, where I have blocks of creative flow in between phases which then transforms that empty/neutral gray space into a new colorful expression of the ‘Spirit’.
Not long ago I took a fancy in photography and am pursuing it now more seriously. Unlike my paintings which are the creation of yet unseen, my photographs document that which is seen first. Since the nature is a part of every single one of us I am highly drawn to capture the beauty of the sacred connection between the earth and sky and everything in ‘Be-Tween’, as a manifestation of A & O in ONE. This connection brings a need in me to capture and translate that which I see into an image which ‘I’ then can name-amen-mean... mean - as a sum of the observations divided by the number of observations... The world is filled with mystic air and our mind has a gift of interpretation ;)
Biography: Marta Machabeli
Born Nov 4 1978 in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, former soviet union. I started painting rather late, at about age 15-16, before than my passion has been Ballroom dancing, which to this day I am involved in intensively. I never thought that I would become an artist, I more thought of myself as of a future drama student or a dance student. But the world changes around us and brings us new doors that are opened before our eyes with new fascinating opportunities. So at the age of 17 I had enrolled into the Georgian Academy of Fine Arts . I grew up and lived in the republic of Georgia with no thought of making a major move in residence. It was not until I had turned 22 that my life brought me to the US, where I am residing to this day. I have participated in several art exhibitions that are held every year in New haven CT. These exhibitions brought me close to many talented artists, who have become very close friends of mine throughout these years.
