James Albert, was born in Los Angeles, California and as a child, loved to paint pictures and design futuristic houses. He started painting seriously in the mid sixties as recreation while studying Aerospace Engineering and Computer Science at Northrop University and the University of California, both in Los Angeles. He has also visited museums and galleries all over the world reviewing and studying all types of art. James feels that since engineering relies a lot on the drawing process to convey ideas, it is natural to "relax" that process into art. The discipline of designing aircraft exposes one to moving, fluid shapes created by the wind, which easily lend themselves to abstract art.
He started working with acrylics and has worked with mixed media as well as the silk screen process. He started painting digitally with Architectural Rendering programs in the mid eighties and has designed several sculptures using 3D modeling techniques.
James' current digital "painting" uses the tools of today's graphic artist, but unlocks creative concepts that might not find their way into an advertisement, brochure, or corporate logo. They should catch your eye and grab you and suck you into their fantasy. They should make you want to
touch them to see if they are real.
The colors in many of his paintings should evoke a sense of passion and/or mystery in the viewer. These colors are usually as bright as current printing technology allows. The state-of-the-art IRIS high pressure ink jet printing system is used exclusively. It produces digital master proofs so accurate that every copy of an edition is an original. This is "craft" printing for the 21st century.
Moreover, digital editions have no digression in quality as copies increase, a problem typically associated with "craft" printing.
James says that painting come to him as "visions". These visions tend to be as far removed from nature as possible. Hopefully, transporting you to another world. The computer, as an artistic medium, has an infinite palate. This makes it the tool of choice for creating playful, fantastical visions. It is a very difficult medium to master but the effects achievable secure its place in the art world forever.
James' catalog currently contains six volumes of eighteen digital paintings each. All paintings are printed on high quality 100% rag art paper ON DEMAND and, are signed and numbered. No edition ever exceeds 25 copies.
James' work is in many private collections, in several international permanent collections, and is currently on display in several galleries around the country.
