I begin a piece by first sketching out what I’m going to paint. In my work you’ll see a mix of geometric forms or curvilinear lines and figures to suggest subjects. I am also compelled to find abstraction in everyday problems or scenes from nature. Some of my work will have black and white as the main figures. With some primary, complementary, or secondary colors I am able to uncover the truth in what I am painting.
I’ll mainly use acrylics, but here and there I’ll use oil, mixed media, and egg tempera. What I do choose to paint comes from everyday scenes of life or basic still life.
The reason I paint is because I have to. I feel as though it’s a necessary part of who I am. As a kid wherever there was an empty space I felt compelled to fill it with a drawing of some sort. Even as a young child in Haiti I was in love with Art. I drew all over the ground, made little flower necklaces, and on tables, in back of books. I remember at age 5 in Haiti using colored chalks to sketch flowers on the concrete ground in front of our house and a nearby construction worker handed my mom a five dollar bill. He has paid my mom for what he called” The most beautiful works of Art he ever seen made from chalk”. I’d like to call that my first commission.
During the process of my work I am filled with pride, excitement, and eagerly continue until I have accomplished all necessary reasons for what I am trying to accomplish overall. I know a piece is done when I have exaggerated all of what is to be done to make the work perfect and my own.
Biography: My name is Anne Paulemont and Im currently a Graphic Design student and artist. I wanted to create art while still living in Haiti. A human instinct burgeoned inside of me, one that compelled me to want to follow that passion.
I felt Art gave me meaning. In my past I have won Art Awards and participated in NBC10's Wednesday's Child.
I am deeply connected with all my work and am sometimes afraid to let go. As it represents a time and place, or a feeling and space. But eventually I do grow un-attached.
Overall I want to inspire, entertain, amaze, an possibly allure Art lovers.
