Biography: On Style: Young Erik's dynamic ability inspires him to construct images that relate to the development of his identity and personal relationships. Erik predominantly works from the human form and often abstracts archetypal Eastern and tribal tattoo forms within his works. He creates figures with an apparitional quality to them; faint figures loom within the surfaces of his work. Through image making and creating art, Erik asserts his views on popular culture and the evolution of society. Erik formally studied drawing and black and white photography while rejecting any training in painting, feeling that the mind cannot be expected to create freely with the extensive formal background that painters receive in higher levels of education. Erik has worked with acrylics since 1992 and has progressively reintroduced collage, drawing and photography within his works. Currently: After spending four years in Ohio, Erik Lopez, also known as Young Erik, returned to Miami in May of 1999 and has been working as a designer. Erik currently owns a graphic design firm in South Florida that produces high-end marketing and design material for individuals, professional corporations and service entities. Erik currently exhibits his works at By Design in Coral Gables, FL.
