Biography: Danielle Auriemma was born in 1968 in Belleville, NJ. Raised in Union, NJ, she enjoyed doing anything creative from early on. She was blessed with parents who eternally supported her interested in the arts. Whether it was taking painting classes or piano lessons, Danielle grew up with her hands endlessly in something artistic. However, it wasn’t until a few years after becoming Danielle D`Amico that she decided to pursue her dream. At the age of 30, she began attending classes at The Art Students League and Parsons School of Design, both of Manhattan. These classes confirmed what she always knew. The very first moment she first stepped into the studio, she knew instinctively that the art world was home, and that it wasn’t too late.
Five years of undergoing classes full time, working part time, caring for both her mother after major spine surgery as well as her supportive and patient husband Frank, Danielle thought she`d never see light at the end of the tunnel. It may have been a struggle, but she accomplished her goal, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with concentration In Illustration from The School of Visual Arts in New York City. She had never felt happier in her life.
Working in traditional mediums, primarily oils and charcoal, Ms. Auriemma-D`Amico`s images convey a slightly stylized realism. “Less is more”, with her muted monochromatic or limited palette. Her cropped images put the subject ‘in your face’, giving the viewer an initial dramatic jolt, followed by an emotional connection. Since Danielle was trained as a commercial artist, her subject matter ranges, but the pieces closest to her heart are from her travels, painting the spirit of places once visited. Danielle’s biggest influences are artists such as Georgia O’Keefe, for her and Caravaggio. This is evident by her either eliminating or limiting the backgrounds, the focus remaining on the primary figure, reducing her compositions to simplified form.
In 2007 she was awarded a bronze medal from the prestigious Portfolios.com International Creatives Award Show. In addition to her paintings gracing local publications, Danielle has exhibited throughout and outside of New Jersey. Galleries include City Without Walls Gallery of Newark, The James Cohan Gallery of NYC, and The Antreasian Gallery of Baltimore to name just a few. Her work can be viewed this summer 2008 at the Long Hill Township Library in Gillette, the Johnson Free Public Library in Hackensack, the Springfield Public Library and the B. Beamsderfer Gallery in Highland Park. She is currently working as a freelance Illustrator and Fine Artist out of Gillette, NJ. Visit Danielle’s website at www.DanielleStudio.com
