In cooperstown,NY,The Baseball Hall of Fame exhibits Mr. Mackie's portrait of Negro Baseball pitcher Smokey Joe williams. Deryl Mackie's work has been described as stylized portraiture. His"personae," as he likes to call them, are musicians,chefs,laborers,dancers and members of the demimonde, caught in graceful and revealing moments, mid-motin. the move, they dance, the pose, perform-and react.
