I perfect the expressive capacities of the human portrait by seeking an entry into the nature, into the essence of the subject. In my native country, Bulgaria, as well as in my adoptive home, Arizona, I have sought to render in painting the mythology and folklore of early societies. I am inspired by the history of the cultural ethnicieties that comprise the U.S., and in particular the Native American culture and costumes. My style is classical realism. I am happy when the audience understands the vision I wanted to express with my paintings and appreciates it. Art is a window, through which the viewer can discover the artist's soul. I hope my fans will discover mine.
Biography: In 1974 I graduated with an MFA degree from the University of Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, where I specialized in painting. I use a variety of media – oil, tempera, watercolor. My model teachers are the masters of the brush: Raphael, Rubens, Toulouse Lautrec, Renoir. My artistic talent has found expression in many forms. Before I graduated from the university, I was working as a window designer and art museum curator. During 1974-1983 together with my husband Michael – a fellow artist – I was commissioned to execute numerous projects for exterior city decoration for several state institutions in Bulgaria. I participated in many of the national exhibitions in Bulgaria in the period 1974-1990. My work has been purchased for the permanent collections of art museums in Veliko Tarnovo and Sofia. In 1992 I immigrated together with my family to the United States. Since then I have organized over a dozen exhibitions in Minneapolis, Edina, St. Paul, Chicago, and have won the following awards: First Place – Aquatennial Art Festival (1992-4), Excelsior Art Festival (1993), Best of Show – Owatonna Art Fest (1995), Award of Excellence by the Manhattan Arts International Sixth Annual Competition (1997).
In 1996 I moved with my family to Scottsdale, AZ. During 1997-1999 I participated in the annual Scottsdale Celebration of Art, while yy art work was represented by Adelante Art Gallery at El Pedregal, Scottsdale. In October of 1999 my husband Michael and I opened our own gallery – Arbanassi Fine Art in Carefree and we have since been enjoying the appreciation of our customers. I continue to participate in local Thunderbird Art Festivals, Fine Art Expo in Scottsdale, as well as select fine art events of the greater Southwest region – California and Colorado.
