Biography: Sokova Janna was born on December 24th, 1973 in Moscow, Russia. In 1981-85 she studied in Childrens’ Art School in Moscow, Krasnopresnensky district. In 1985-1992 she studied in Moscow Art Surikov Lyceum. In 1993 she entered Moscow Surikov State Art Institute at the Faculty of painting and graduated from it in 1999 (with honors) getting the Degree of Artist specialized in “easel painting” (# of Degree 199). After graduating from the Institute she was awarded with a state grant for year 2000 by Union of Russian Artists. In 1995-1997 she got the grant of the International Charitable Program “New Names” taking an active part in its program. 1999 – member of Moscow Artists Union. 2000 – member of International Artists and Graphics Union Since the 90-s she's taken part in over 20 exhibitions, paintings are situated in many countries of the world. I began to paint quite early and I’ve always been devoting all my spare time to painting. I have passed 3 study degrees and I can say that painting is a great labor that requires many years. The skill comes gradually and it's getting more difficult to move ahead as time passes by. The finish of study or even the moment you start doing the degree work is rather difficult phase in every artist’s life, since you want to prove to be a real expert, a mature artist with your own theme and style, you are trying to declare of yourself. My degree work was a series (9 peaces) of interiors of Orthodox churches made in famous temples, such as St. Basil’s Cathedral, St. Trinity church at Nikitniki, Annunciation Cathedral, Assumption Temple at Kolomna-town. Some of these works are included in the present catalogue. Nowdays, after graduating from the Art Institute, I have a possibility to go to creative trips both in Russia and abroad. I paint nature very much, although the plain air painting requires velocity and precision, since the nature state is movable. I paint a lot of still lives, flowers, I adore to grow flowers and make bunches of them.
