Biography: Native of the city of Cali, Colombia, Mauricio grew up between the urban life in the cities and the beautiful countryside; an avid traveler in Latin America and Europe, he has been exposed to the amazing diversity of many cultures and their art.
The artwork of Mauricio Rincon blends styles and techniques with wimsical and surreal landscapes, profoundly nuanced and almost dream like.
Mauricio holds a Bachelors of Arts degree from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago where he graduated with the distinction Magna Cum Laude. While studying at Northeastern, Mauricio was awarded the Dean's Honors List for academic excellence in 2007 and 2008. He was also awarded the Brommel-Mendelson Scholarship in 2007.
Mauricio also studied Architecture at the Universidad Nacional in Manizales, Colombia (1983-85); Sociology at Universidad del Valle (1985); Political Science at Oakton College in DesPlaines, Illinos (1988-89) and French at the Alliance Francaise in Chicago and New Orleans.
In May 2008, Mauricio spent his last semester traveling in mainland Greece, Crete and Clycladic islands. During this time, he studied the Classics and conducted research for his Honors Thesis in art history.
His research showed that "Although there was no cultural contact between Mycenae and Moche cultures, formal similarities exist in the artistic representations and iconography of Mycenaean and Moche pottery".
Currently Mauricio lives in Chicago where he continues making art and prepares for Graduate school. He is collaborating with the Colombian Consulate in its efforts to represent Colombian artists during this year Independence celebrations in Chicago.
