Biography: The name Yaasmiin is increasingly becoming a household name in many parts of Brooklyn. This artist is best known for her familiar subject matter portrayed in abstract colors. From street fairs in Soho and exhibitions in restaurants, her paintings have caught the eyes of many Brooklynites and tourists alike. Yaasmiin is a modernist painter based out of Brooklyn New York. For association's sake, some may think that her work is reminiscent to that of Warhol or Lichtenstein.... but with a natural and soulful flair. With a background in fine arts, she always had a magnetism for any form of creative expression. From a youth traveling from country to country with her military mom, Yaasmiin found solace in creating short stories, making color cut outs of paper toys for her brother, or even hand-sewing clothes for her cabbage patch doll named Human Bein (she did not yet know how to spell, so for the sake of consistency, we will assume that her doll's last name is spelled correctly). All of the above, mind you had been mastered before the age of nine-even before she was comfortable with spelling. Soon, Yaasmiin began being recognized for her talent in elementary school, often being nominated to design illustrations to represent the class, and even using her creations to represent the school. Yaasmiin always had a pencil and a pad on hand, with which she wrote and illustrated many short stories revolved around simple characters with seemingly complex problems. One star subject in particular was haunted by a lump under his rug. Throughout the story, the character turned this lump into a catastrophe as he envisioned what this proposterous creature could be....when in the end, he discovered that it was nothing more than a mere basketball. Nurturing her roots, Yaasmiin has kept the creativity intact, and her paintings reflect her rich and creative background. Today, you can find her original pieces in Europa nightclub of Greenpoint Brooklyn. Keep an eye out for gallery exhibits featuring her work, and if you see an outstanding blue person painted onto a wood panel, most likely you havefound Yaasmiin.
