"Painting allows me to pull from different aspects of the world and reinterpret them through my own language of line usage and design. I am both challenged and fascinated by the process of translating a specific meaning or idea into its end result. I tend to look at every piece of work as a composition that, in its finished state, will demonstrate a distinction that distinguishes me among other artists."
Intertwine the following: Precision, Abstraction, and Pop Art, and you have an approximate conception of Young's work. His "style" or "technique" doesn't easily fall into any one category though his work remains highly recognizable and distinct. Young's paintings are currently all acrylic on stretched canvas. His drawings are closely related to his paintings as far as technique, theme, and style are concerned. The majority of those are pen & ink. His side projects include the documentation of painting on humans as well as painted installations involving large-scale free-standing cylindrical columns.
Biography: Patrick M. Young was born in Maryland in 1977, living the majority of his life in Northern Virginia.
In 1995 Young was accepted into the five year Architecture program at Virginia Tech, graduating in 2000 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. During his time at Virginia Tech, Young began drawing and painting to compliment his architectural studies. Using a variety of media he began developing a unique and recognizable style in the way he worked.
His commitment to art and his passion for this vocation began shortly after graduation. Within two short years he had amassed a portfolio of finished works and was offered a solo exhibition at a new gallery in Arlington, VA where he would exhibit over 50 original paintings and drawings.
The opening reception, with over 250 guests, was an extraordinary success for this now emerging artist. Several buyers have already begun a collection of his works. His formal career as an artist had begun.
One of Young's trademarks, which began at his first public showing, is the gifting of several small original works at each of his shows.
In August of this year, Young was asked to serve as the Director of the Khoja Gallery in Arlington, VA.
Patrick M. Young is a steady performer in the contemporary art scene in the greater-Washington area, developing art using his distinctive line-work in a variety of media and a style all his own. His works can be viewed at http://www.ModernArtist.com
