Biography: The Artist I was born in 1958 in Darlington to Ruth and Brian who were both in the teaching profession. The eldest of three children (brother and sister Barry and Alison) I was educated at George Dent Nursery, Alderman Leach Primary, Hummersknott Comprehensive School, The Queen Elizabeth VI Form College and Neville’s Cross College, Durham University. I taught for 22 years before taking early retirement due to illness. I began painting as part of my rehabilitation under the guidance of Lizzie Starr. My early work was in oils but a course of lessons with Eric Thompson saw me produce watercolours mainly of north eastern landscapes. After much thought I decided to convert the garage at home and use it as a studio/gallery. The work took three months to complete.(Thanks to Dave my brother in law and his mate, Paul) I hope you enjoy your visit to the studio and enjoy the paintings on show. Having my own place to work and contemplate my art and life itself is very important to me and the surroundings give me a lot of motivation and inspiration to produce my work.
