2007 Through drawing and painting my current work assesses our experience of landscape and implicitly is an attempt to re examine landscape painting as a genre. Drawing primarily from an archive of photographs of locations once visited, depictions of peopleless coastal regions, rivers, fields and moorland are all examined through the physical process of drawing and painting. Increasingly, man made structures are included, opening up an assessment of these interventions in the landscape. During the selection process, decisions about cropping, colouring, scale and editing are taken to individualise each work. Inherent in my work is identifying and exploiting the potential for a fusion of painting and drawing or alternatively making the differences clear. 2008 As part of the development of my practice i have recently turned my attention to portraiture. 'Winter Self Portrait' is an example of this. This work in part is influenced by 15th Century Italian Painting, in particular, the profile and the flat background colour.
