David Ward is a prolific artist living and working in Leicester. He has had a successful and varied career as a commercial artist and is now concentrating on developing his own range of fine art images, to be distributed as a sort after collection of high-quality Limited Edition Prints. The theme that runs throughout his work, in many styles, is spiritualism. This loose and flowing style reflects itself in the abstract, through powerful images of the wild, to the power and beauty of the female form.
Biography: David displayed a fascination for drawing and painting from a very early age, and since then, this prolific artist has followed many diverse paths, pursuing a career in the world of Art. Having won numerous competitions in his early teens, David received the St Jonathan North award just before finishing school. As the first recipient of this now coveted award, David then embarked on his first UK wide exhibition. David was then head hunted by a print and design company and during the next four years he achieved distinctions in his City & Guilds Examinations, while he honed his flexo-lotho and screen printing techniques in a professional environment. David continued to paint in various mediums, in particular gouache and acrylics, before his first one-man show opened at the Richard Smart Gallery when he was just 20 years old. Encouraged by the shows success, David decided to go it alone, concentrating on commissions from publishing houses and the private sector. By the time he was 24, David was running a large art studio - painting and art directing a team of talented, hand picked young artists - supplying artwork and design to publishers worldwide. For the next decade David's work was sold to publishers in London, New York, Europe, The Far East and Australia. Artwork originals were produced for gallery prints, stationary, greetings cards, fashion design and licensed products. Whilst developing a commercial career, David also studied photography - mixing this media in a unique way with his traditional painting skills. Commissions followed and his studio was hired to complete several overseas photo shoots for calendars - receiving several awards in the process. He was also awarded the Chamber of Commerce "Young New Business of the Year" and featured in a documentary shown on national TV. Wishing to concentrate on his art, David left the company he had formed to develop his skills and cement his career as a solo artist. Now based in a large studio in St Martins, Leicester, David is concentrating full-time on his fine art.
