Color inspires me. I remember looking through my mom’s Avon catalogs when I was very young, and I had to point to and say every color. I think this has evolved into a love of color in any kind of art I do, whether it be painting, graphic design, photography, or sewing. I like seeing the results of something I’ve worked hard on, and I also enjoy the process. I enjoy people, taking pictures of people, drawing people, painting people. I like capturing expressions and personalities in art. For painting, I enjoy using oils with mixed media on top such as charcoal or pastels because I liked the combination of shiny and dull. It adds interest and may catch a viewer’s attention. As for photography, as much as I enjoy learning new digital techniques, I get much satisfaction out of the control I get to have over the results when I print in the darkroom. I also like this because of the way black and white photography looks. Art makes me happy, plain and simple.
