" I explore the questions 'Who am I?' 'Who are we?' 'What is reality?' from spiritual, psychological and visual perspectives, mainly informed by Buddhist philosophy, meditation, art therapy, psychotherapy and a deep interest in the meeting point between many of the world's spiritual traditions. This interest is long standing:I have always been curious to find the essence of things since the age of 13; I began psychotherapy in 1982; I have been involved with Buddhism and meditation since 1993; my BA dissertation was on 'The Symbolism of the Centre in Religion and Sacred Art' in which I compared and contrasted symbolism in the art of Hinduism, Islam, Christianity and indigenous art. An exploration of this interface I feel is much needed in view of the current world situation, our multicultural society and the need for spiritually and emotionally nourishing art which can help heal and create a feeling of well being.
My work has undergone several transformations over the years. While involved with psychotherapy, my early, representational work explored archetypes and the parent-adult-child theme. Following this, and influenced by Klee, Kandinsky, Rothko and Indian Art, I began to paint from within in a non representational way, experimenting with ways of exploring sexuality, spirituality, self and embodiment through colour, space, light and form symbolism. More recently (and not shown yet on this web site) I am beginning to explore drawing as a meditative process and using various 2-D media to explore the relationship between inner mental states and appearances of the outer world. I intend this to be the start of a new body of work - which I feel has tremendous potential - specifically informed by my own experience of Buddhist teachings on the nature of mind."
