I have always longed to show people what I see and how I see it, but until now, never had the opportunity to do it. Taking pictures has always been an obsession and it has literally been a lifelong fascination and my current background in large format fine art printing has both taught and inspired me in the photographic and colour process.
Although not formally trained, my experience of 30 years of taking photographs has stretched and grown into experimenting and exploring with an array of images. I was so inspired by studying Gabriel Lippmann’s process colour technology, where images are produced not by dyes or pigments but by light at different wavelengths that I wanted to develop a different angle to my work. This led me to looking at light sources through various reflective and refractive materials such as glass and water. It struck me that the reflections created a pattern that paints a picture by combining strong, rich colours. I wanted to do more with these patterns and experimenting with the colour array contained within the images, I was able to make bold, striking images.
The media I am currently working with are photographic prints that are encapsulated within two thick blocks of acrylic Perspex. Acrylic has a higher light transmission than glass and makes the printed colours seem sharper, more brilliant, more intense, and further enhances the reflective qualities of my art.
