Emma Pattullo

Inspired by a variety of sources including my children and the Scottish landscape my work is constantly evolving. My ceramic art work varies from functional, but tends to lean towards sculptural‚ as well as making commemorative bowls, and platters to commission (commemorative items are personalised which makes an ideal gift for weddings, namings, anniversaries house warmings or any other special occasion). I also specializes in custom handmade and handpainted tiles. I am happiest expressing myself and my ideas through clay, resulting in a wide range of ceramics. I most enjoy hand building in earthenware using texture‚ engobes and luster’s to create richly colored‚ decorative and tactile pieces. But, recently I have rediscovered my love of painting, which I am exploring with great relish! I have always flirted with all aspects of artistic creation, but tend to find that I come back to clay quite regularily. When working on commissions, I start with sketches and colour swatches to get the ideas solidified for your handmade and hand painted pieces. I offer a bespoke service and work closely with clients and hard at making the commissions unique and most importantly exactly the way the clients want it. I also teach pottery workshops in handbuilding techniques & decoration from my studio gallery Platform 22, schools and art groups/centres around Aberdeenshire, catering for beginners to intermediate level and for parties, groups and one to one tuition. I am also looking into getting involved with some community based projects too. Biography: Emma Pattullo (nee Croker Poole) - ceramicist, illustrator and pottery tutor. London born, I have always loved working with clay since the age of 5, when I joined pottery morning workshops at Chelsea Pottery. I studied at Wimbledon School of Art (1999) for my foundation year, and got a Bachelor of Arts Degree in ceramics at Bristol / University of the West of England (1990 - 93) before moving to Aberdeenshire, where I now live and work from my studio gallery Platform 22 in Torphins. Situated in the beautiful surroundings of Scotland's Royal Deeside, my studio gallery is a small family run studio gallery, exhibiting my ceramics and paintings as well as a selection of works by local artists. This year I hope to be exhibiting with Aberdeen Artists at Aberdeen Art Gallery, Kincardine and Deeside Arts Forumn, The Milton, Artaboyne, Larks Gallery, The Carby Gallery, The Pennan Gallery, Aboyne Festival, Scottish Potters Association, North East Open Studios, the Gallery Heinzel as well as, of course Platform 22. Generally try to expose my work a little more!
