Artist Statement “ If a notion is less tangible in your minds eye, surly upon seeing it visibly it becomes more credible, which just makes the subject more striking. My painting are to be viewed with the open mind of a child and not the philosophy of an adult.” Techniques My portraits are an intimate reaction to the people I meet, often my sitters are friends who help me express myself. I use photography as the source for my portraiture, this significantly reduces the time and inconvenience to the sitter. I take the photographs over one or two sessions of around two hours duration. These usually take place in the informal atmosphere of the sitter’s home or garden. The first meeting is often a good opportunity to discuss the client’s expectations and for me to see the intended site for the finished work. This enables me to choose the dimensions, colour and tone of the picture the time scale for completed work will vary according to size and composition My work is for sale on this site and also available for commissioned portraits, please feel free to contact me. Biography: Introduction After Leaving Art College in 92 I gradually moved into a full-time career in teaching Art/Design at HMP Manchester. I left Teaching in 04 to concentrate on a full-time career as an Artist. My artwork has change dramatically in the last 16months, I have moved into a medium I have rarely used in the past oil paint. I have developed a vivid representational style, trying to make the realistic representation of the sitter and the surreal, mythological elements sit comfortably together in the composition. I have recently been working on a series of paintings portraying predominantly children with wings. My artwork is a combination of what is visible to the eye with an interpretation of the underlying essence of the sitter.
