Biography: G?lnur S?zmen was born in Istanbul and started her career in 1970. . Having graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Design and Photography, (University of Applied Arts, Istanbul) in 1976,and opened her first personal exhibition at the same year. After her graduation, she worked in advertising agencies as graphical designer and photographer for 2 years. In 1978 she set up her own workshop and continued her professional photography studies.In 1986; she concentrated her professional photography studies in industrial area and took numerous industrial photographs in various regions of Turkey and the world and has created a large archive on "workers " from these documentaries. In 1987, she became a member of PTFD (Association of Professional Advertising Photographers), in upcoming years she carried out general secretary and president positions in the association. Apartfrom her photography studies, she undertook researches on "the place of photography in art and Visual Communication " and gave lectures in "Visual Communication " in the main discipline of Photography Department of Mimar Sinan University in 1982-1996.and also supported many young photographers in their career to become professionals. In 1994, she went to San Francisco/USA as guest art?st. S?zmen shot many photography documentaries in Turkey especially in the South East Anatolia until 1995, after which she focused her studies on Central and South East Asia and created a comprehensive archive. Opening up 7 personal exhibitions starting from 1976, G?lnur S?zmen attended numerous joint exhibitions, slide shows, symposiums and photography contests juries. She still lives in Istanbul and continues her professional advertorial and documentary studies.
