I am interested in portraying the relationship between objects, how they interact with each other as colours and shapes across space. The Still life provides an intimate subject that forms its own world. Objects can be deployed 'formally' or arranged more spontaneously. By focusing-in on objects they gain character and presence and take on a significance beyond their everyday status. The depiction of light gives life to the objects and this light can be carefully controlled to determine the atmosphere within the composition. One still-life set-up can be the subject of a series of paintings exploring variations such as light or scale.
