Biography: Kim Smith is a native of California. She was born in San Francisco in 1965, and grew up in the small artists colony of Half Moon Bay. Her mother, who was an accomplished artist, raised her children surrounded by books , paints, and classical music. " I grew up reading books about Leonardo, and all of the other great Renaissance masters and believed that to amount to anything in life that I would have to not only be an artist, but also a scientist, a doctor and an inventor. Although this thought put a terrific amount of pressure on me in school growing up, by the time I realized that I didn't have to do it all I had grown to love passionately all of these fields. Now if I go for any length of time without painting, sculpting, writing, or studying I feel a great void in my life." Kim went to Half Moon Bay High School where she received the art award each year, including an art scholarship upon graduating. This scholarship along with an athletic package for the gymnastics team allowed her to attend San Jose State University. After college Kim started her own graphic design studio in the San Francisco Bay area, and still continued to create commissioned art for clients. Presently she lives in Ojai, California, with her husband and four young children. "The question, I am most often asked," she say's " is how do you find the time to be a good parent , and still find the time to create?" Her answer? "My family and my art are my greatest joy's in life. If I wasn’t the best parent I could possibly be I couldn't live with myself, and If I didn't create, I couldn't live."
