I find that today's society with all its material excess (for those in developed nations) leaves a kind of void that one is constantly trying to fill. This is very similar to the "hole" that Sartre wrote about in his work. This void tends to be expressed in my works in various degrees. However, there are a couple of works that express joy, and these are mainly inspired by music, without which I could not live. I am very interested in the similarities between painting and music, a subject which has been explored by other artists as well.
Biography: Growing up on a small farm in Jamestown, North Carolina, K.L. Misenheimer eventually received her B.A. in Art History from the University of North Carolina. She has taken courses in drawing, design, and photography. She has worked as an art consultant, a photographer, and a movie theater manager. The artist finds there is a great tension between the desire to create and the need to live in the real world. She currently lives at the beach with her daughter, who loves to draw Japanese manga.
