My mixed media paintings on paper are based on natural images found in the Pacific Northwest. Piles of rotting logs, trees covered in moss and lichen, and shiny roots pushing through moist soil are all sources for my work. By taking these images out of context, I attempt to reinterpret them on paper with layers of collage and paint. Although the end products are expressions of abstraction, their root sources are from seldom-noticed surfaces.
