In my work, I transfigure every-day life. Through it, I manifest the subjective content and the personal interpretation of an invisible and fantastic universe.
In this universe, there is life in everything. The soul of all beings is exposed – of the animal kingdom, vegetables and minerals. The latent force of life is thus expressed in this vibratory energy, in the undulation, which passes through my body and determines brushstroke and colors.
When I paint, I try not to explain, to interpose logic and rationale. I let life pass through me. Images emerge spontaneously, and I feel that they are only a prop. They are a gateway through which I plunge into my personal universe.
Biography: While studying architecture at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Lucemar de Souza was encouraged by one of her professors, Renato Meneschal, to paint watercolors. Later on, when assisting a number of lectures held by professor Clarival do Prado Valladares he introduced her to the artist Ivan Serpa after observing that she took notes in the form of sketches.
This encounter resulted in Lucemar de Souza, to become a regular visitor of Ivan Serpa’s house and his pupil - his orientation, professional discipline and passion for art to influence her work in a permanent fashion.
She participated in several exhibitions in her native Brazil, including the “Sal?o de Arte Moderna”. Her work has also been shown in the United States, at the Latin American Art Gallery and at Serious Studios in Miami, and in Belgium / Europe at LineArt-Gent.
In 2004, exhibitions of Lucemar de Souza's works occurred at AAI-Galerie in Vienna / Austria; in New York at Agora Gallery in the show entitled "Masters of the Imagination"; participation in “Art Copenhagen” / Denmark; in the show “Art at War” at Aldo Castillo Gallery, Chicago; and a solo show entitled "The Imaginary" at Feso ProArte, Teres?polis, Rio de Janeiro, with a selection of her most recent works. From November 5 through December 8, one of her works participated in an exhibition in the President's Gallery at The Chicago State University, and from 21 December through 20 January 2005 her paintings have been present at the XV Sal?n Internacional de Artes Pl?sticas y Visuales ACEA'S in Barcelona / Spain.
