My work includes animal, marine, architectural and vintage vehicle studies. Particularly inspired by ecclesiastical architecture. I welcome commissions which can be created from photographs (if the location is too distant). Biography: Malcolm Cockell:
Born in 1941 not far from the Thames at Chertsey, Malcolm Cockell spent most of his childhood in and around small craft on the river or “earning a bob or two” helping the local lock keeper. Even as a young boy, he sketched various river craft and this laid the foundations of Malcolm's love of boats and painting.
Sailing and drawing remained a hobby whilst Malcolm pursued his career as an engineer before becoming a professional artist.
He draws upon every part of his experience as an engineer, from fine line drawings learned at the draughtsman's board, through his love of buildings, classic aircraft and motor vehicles, to his greatest love-the sea. The combination of these, together with an ability to capture unexpected moments (or indeed, more tranquil scenes) has produced a succession of pictures - delightful, seemingly effortless - and sometimes a little quirky!
Malcolm spent many years living and working abroad before returning to the inspiration of Cornwall, where his work was received with acclaim and enthusiasm. Malcolm and his wife Harriet, now live in Norfolk, which provides even more rich opportunities for his interpretation of the East Anglian countryside.
