My paintings explore the idea of chance and randomness. Collaged on the canvas is a motley of text and images that are inspiring and of personal interest; a personal museum of curios that are revealed or hidden by the paint. Images derived from mythology, history, and travel, as well as text selected from encyclopedias and narratives, create arbitrary connections on the canvas. Painted over the collages are abstracted landscapes, both real and fictional, creating an underlying mood or feel for each piece. Discovery and suggestion emerge during the painting process. Naturally the viewer searches for connections between the text and images, drawing on personal experience and knowledge to validate these connections. This results in countless interpretations for each work. These 'studies' of the unpredictable demonstrate that our own happenings may at first appear to have no assignable cause. Only after a period of reflection does the random appear to be connected
