Art is not gratuitous, it is a necessity that serves multiple functions. One that interests me particularly is the social function which has a humanizing truth. What is our inducible social truth as individuals among communities (human, animal…)? What is our spiritual reality? Dreams and symbols parallel reality as we engage in a complicated journey from the inward to the outward, forward, backward from the known to the unknown, the forgotten to the remembered, the lies to the truth. Art mirrors our a-mazing wanderings, can help us find our ways or it will lose us even more; when approached rightly, art anchors our dreams and transforms us deeply. As an artist and bilingual French-American poet who has struggled, my message is one of hope and life, overcoming destructive behaviours, knowing that death is also ultimately the freedom from the material and the gain into the spiritual realm.
