I have been often told that my sculptures are perhaps the easiest to appreciate and the most difficult to describe of any of the works of the current group of young Iraqi sculptors. The main goal is to insure that each gives the spectator many contradictory impressions – robust, calm, intense, profound, mysterious, and direct – I hope that an analysis of my output will lead one in all these directions at once. Perhaps the only impression one gets from nearly all my sculptures is a sort of gentle strength.
Apart from this the common factors in my work are mostly technical ones: the subtle and precise sense of form and shape, the utilisation of space and the deceptive simplicity of expression.
The events of my life are particularly important when compared with the relatively short history of the work, for 2 dramatic and decisive events have played their role in shaping my inner development. The conclusion of the Gulf war and a 2-year stay in Libya gave me the first real chance for meditation and research, the results of which became increasingly clear as I have developed. Up until last year, I had concentrated almost exclusively upon the use of Stone and Marble in my sculptures, partly because I was quite sure that quality appeared when conscious limitations were placed upon an artists way of working. More recently, I have begun to use bronze and plan to continue using this material in the coming period by choosing line as my essential means of expression.
All my sculptures are original and I never make copies. If you are interested in finding out more about myself or my art feel free to contact me and I will be sure to get back to you. In the meantime I hope you enjoyed viewing my work and please come again as I will be updating these pages on a regular basis.
Best regards
