Contemporary.....
The outdoors has always held a special place in life and in my imagination, being alive with colour, texture and form, with its ever-changing living sculptures. It is from here, and from many aspects of everyday life that I find the inspiration for my work.
Using observation, developed often through photography, I attempt to capture what is visual with the emotional, in my paintings.
Spiritual........
I am foremost, a Christian artist, who combines knowledge in art with personal experiences gained through faith and intend to express this through my work.
My spiritual work is composed in different ways, generally from a vision in my mind or from biblical text/word. Likewise, it could be a specific picture for an individual, persons or situation.
It is my hope that my work provokes awareness of the viewers own spirituality.
Biography: Art has always played a big part in my life, I have always drawn and painted. It is only after working as a hairstylist for many years, that I have recently been able to realise my dream and become an artist.
Living in the Pendleside village of Higham, the outdoors has always held a special place in my life and in my imagination, it being alive with colour, texture and form, with its ever-changing living sculptures. It is from here, and from many aspects of everyday life that I find the inspiration for my work.
I enjoy working in a variety of media, painting in oils and acrylic. However, I also like to work in free machine embroidery, using the stitching of the machine like I would my brush. I also love the simplicity and ease of sketching, particularly when paints and machine are not readily to hand. I will often use a pen, as I love the challenge that it demands, when you cannot erase your mistakes!
