Statement......"Each of my paintings expresses a particular moment; a thought, feeling, or an event that has occurred. I believe that any reality is only a matter of perception, and that it varies from person to person. My paintings are my reality, and I do also believe that some people will perceive them as I do. However, as with all art and life, each piece is open to the interpretations and opinions of the individual."
Biography: SG, born and raised in the Chicago area, has always been drawn to the arts. From the age of seven, she dedicated her time to a vigorous figure skating regimen. This continued, eight hours each day, until she was eighteen years old. The training, travel and competition involved in this sport has developed a sense of discipline and independence in the artist, which has remained with her in everything towards which she has been dedicated.
SG’s paintings, a unique blend of surrealism and eroticism, are wrought with emotion and psychologically twisted cultural influences. She feeds off the experiences of having traveled to such places as Belize (Central America), Mexico, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Brazil, the Caribbean, London and other areas of England, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Mallorca and Czechoslovakia. Her family moved to the United States in 1968 from the Czech Republic and shortly after, she was born. SG expresses her emotional and psychological reactions to everyday life and culture through her use of color, photo collage, and glazing techniques, creating a rich world of shape and shadow for the mind to reside.
After receiving her degree from the American Academy of Art in Chicago, she moved to Minneapolis, where she continues to paint and create new works. Her pieces can be found in various private collections worldwide.
