My earliest memories and interests have been of art and creation. For many years I spent hours exploring my thoughts in journals until I discovered that paint allows me the freedom to articulate my ideas and feelings more clearly than by pen and paper. In my work I seek to complement the moments I encounter. I attempt breaking down life to its visual essentials - light, dark, balance, movement, tone - and in so doing, perhaps show another perspective, and I crystallize my feeling; a feeling that is captured in a cage of colors and lines. I enjoy capturing the essence of a moment. And when I paint, I do not imitate reality, but I create a new one, based on its own laws and its own principles.
In the course of my work I rely on my intuition, knowledge and skill. For me, science provides facts and principles that help my intellect grasp the physical nature and complexity of things, while my visual art deals with these subjects provides interpretation and inspiration leading toward a deeper aesthetic, spiritual, and metaphysical understanding.
Science moves my soul, just as art does.
I love color. I love design. I love the pieces of life that make us who we are. So now, when you look at my work - you can imagine a colorful road of life leading to each one. And then you get to continue that road with your own imagination and interpretation of my work. I hope they make you smile. Life is good.
The canvas is my playground of words, it is my art, it is what I have to offer.
Biography: I was born in Mozambique in 1961. My holidays were spent in the African bush where I developed a passion for the fauna and the flora of Africa. Twelve years later, after the 74 revolution, the family moved to Johannesburg, South Africa. This was the place where, for its beauty as country, and its warm hearted people, I found the inspiration and motivation to simplify and prioritize my own life on the basis of basic needs rather than impulsive wants. I learned to love more, to enjoy being in the moment and to work harder! I learned that people are the same everywhere. We share the same spirit. I learned that if the principles of love and acceptance of one another are followed that in most cases, the outcome is respect for self and others.
My creative soulful home has taken me many places and, from my artist nature, I have explored many medias throughout my works.
The major characteristic of my artwork is the combination of figuration and abstraction, while human figures have been major objects in my art since the earlier stages in my style, and later I have tended towards more conceptual abstraction forming neo expressionism style.
I am a vivid reader and enjoy the solitude of a quiet evening on my favorite armchair with one or two science books. I don’t look for physical laws of art, and don’t look for religious interpretations of quantum mechanics, but in a way, art is like science, it opens up little windows onto the world that nobody has ever seen before. I try to open those windows.
Today, I live and work in Lisbon.
