The Holy Grail is to spend less time making the picture than it takes people to look at it.
Pierre Bonard
Biography: I was born in Romania and I am a self-taught artist using oil on canvas.
My work is based in realism.
I paint predominantly still life, but my paintings include landscapes and portraits, realistic presentations with emphasis on capturing the light. I painted a few abstracts, wanting to express pure color, shape, line and space.
I developed a passion for drawing and painting at an early age, when I was making sketches for my friends and colleagues to hang them in their rooms.
A child’s dream to become an artist one day got lost somewhere in my growing up phase. During adulthood it became a “one day I am going to paint”. For many years it never happened.
I started to paint again a few years ago. Painting remained a hobby until family and friends convinced me that this is a gift I need to share. This is an opportunity to thank all those who have had faith and supported me.
I received an invitation from the Internal Committee to participate in the 2009 International Biennale of Contemporary Art in Florence (Biennale Internazionale dell’Arte Contemporanea), Italy. Unfortunately I could not make it, but I was very honored to be invited. The Florence Biennale is a very important exhibition held in the historical Fortezza da Basso in Florence, Italy, that was started in 1997 and takes place every two years. What makes a subject attractive to me are the same things that attract us all: the beauty of flowers, the solitude of nature at sunrise and sunset, a beautiful face.
Although I have started with abstracts and landscapes, flowers are my favourite. I love roses, their diversity and richness of colour. Trying to do their beauty justice with paint and a brush is very challenging. In painting what I love, I hope to bring passion to my work.
As a self-taught artist, it has been a journey of discovery and making mistakes, I believe that in painting there is no wrong or right way.
Nature is an infinite source of inspiration, with its richness of colour and perfect forms. In my works, I aim to achieve a realistic quality, to capture volume, texture and color convincingly enough to convey the illusion of reality. Through my paintings I try to express the beauty that is all around me, I attempt to reproduce the textures and colors to their maximum quality, to give back to the world its beauty. The use of light and shadow is an important element of the work.
I believe in the value of great Old Masters, who have never failed to strive for perfection, whether in color, form, or composition. The composition and technique I use is influenced and inspired by the realism of post renaissance Masters and their wonderful, timeless masterpieces.
