In this series of prints I use the techniques of monotype,paper plate lithography and collograph to build up the layering within each piece. I enjoy collecting old photographs and images from dictonarys,the internet and old books. I am attracted by the absurd and somewhat humerous illustrations from the early 50's and 60's. I use these images in my work,which are photocopied onto paper lithography plates and printed as collaged elements onto each print.The imagery used creates a juxtaposition from the more serious photographs of people posing for their portraits, to the less serious absurd illustrations of old patents or line drawings to describe words found in dictionarys. By working in this manner, each image plays off another,like putting a puzzle together,to create new meaning within each print.They can be open to each viewers own interpretation.
