The real artist’s work is surprise to himself. A great painter is the one who has something to say. He thus does not paint men, landscapes or furniture but an idea. While conceptualizing, our thoughts are unrestrained; limitations only weigh on the wings of an idea as it soars wild and free on the updrafts of possibility. Creative freedom allows us to do anything imaginable, anything at all. I waited a long time before this series of work started to unfold. My palette of skills, experiences, desires, complexes, yearnings, pains and joys all took their tool before they could move an enriching meaningful discovery. There is no literal interpretation of thoughts; rather the pleasure of the medium and the process of painting have transformed my palette into an image. While doing these paintings, I have seen images change, conflicts resolve, emotions settle, bitterness turn sweet, monsters becoming friends. It has been a discovery, a transformation, like alchemy. The play of textures and the chemistry of different materials have provided an exciting challenge, a fascination to explore, to discover surface from surface, a desire to let go, to unlearn. It is an intriguing new journey.
