SJ Holliday is a member of The Royal Society of British Artists, and gained professional membership of The Craft Potters Association of Great Britain. Her work has been exhibited widely around the world in both museums and art galleries. Including Japan, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, Israel, Malta, America and Cyprus. She exhibits regularly with the RBA. I'm a great people watcher, my favourite occupation would be to sit at a pavement cafe preferably on the Med, eating the local cuisine, drinking the house wine and just watching the world turn. I've always loved figurative work even when it was at its' most unfashionable, that's what I did, and if you liked it you liked it and if you didn't well that's what I did and it's what I still do, and now I work in clay, and again there is another argument brewing, is clay a craft or an art? (confining the medium to vessels (craft), or as a vehicle towards other cast mediums (art). And again I just do, someone else can theorize, it's not that I don't care, it just is, and I suppose if I have a philosphy it's this: this is me, this is my work if you like it that's great, if you love it that's wonderful, if you don't, oh well! So what I love about what I do is this: the immediacy, it isn't one step removed. Capturing the essence of what excited or amused me. The translation. are those strange murky brown glazes going to transform themselves into the vibrant blues or elusive pinks that I see in my minds eye? And last, but by no means least, the anticipation, until that moment when I can finally open that kiln door. Clay is alchemy, ceramics are magic and art just is, what it is I don't know, I just know it when I see it, and I hope you see it here too.......
