The main source of inspiration for my work is drawn from the natural environment capturing the ever changing British climate and its effect on the landscape. Working from my riverside studio in the heart of the beautiful Tanat Valley, wildlife and natural landscape subjects are immediately at hand to be depicted in my paintings. The subject will dictate its treatment and the media to be used. Acrylic, Watercolour and Pastel are my preferred mediums. A combination of on-location sketches and photographic reference provide a starting point for the work to be completed in the studio. My latest venture is into the world of digital image making, enabling me not only to produce original paintings but also prints of my more popular images. My work attempts much more than objective representation. It is very much a personal interpretation and is intended to delight the eye and lift the spirit.
Biography: Stuart Parnell was born in Bebington on the Wirral Peninsular in 1951, and studied fine art at the Wirral College of Art and Design from 1983 to 1986 becoming a full time artist in 1987, working on commissions, solo and group exhibitions. He has also taught art in adult education and art centres. Stuart is married with two sons and now lives and works in Mid Wales. His work is exhibited at selected galleries around the United Kingdom and hangs in Public and Private collections throughtout the British Isles, Europe, U.S.A. and Australia. He has won many awards for his paintings on a local and national level. His work has been included in the Royal Institute of Painters in watercolours in the Mall Gallery in London and the British Society of Painters in exhibitions in Yorkshire.
