This years work ethos: introducing a new series of work for 2007. Andy Warhol's movie, "Sleep," being 6 hours long was just another of his obsessions with the eternal, for, in fact, only the first 20 minutes of it was original footage, the other 5 hours and 40 minutes were just repeted, like he did with so many of his silkscreen paintings. These early movies of his were primarily conceptual, with the audience, probably unknown to them at the time, taking centre stage in what was in fact a grand arts event, with themselves as exhibits. Warhol was doing a social experiment. He wanted to change the rules regarding movie going. He wanted to eliminate its escapism, and replace it with realism, in the shape of social intervention, which he knew what be the result. But he failed to complete it, because, primarily, it was also an exercise in the eternal. What he should have done was to have covertly filmed one of the movies premier showings, capturing the event. Perhaps even taking it another step further by filming the filming process. He should have had one of his staff film him filming the event. So, we would then have had, Warhol being filmed filming the public screening of his film. This eternal dual mirrow effect is exactly what I'm going to attempt to do in my new series of work. Maybe a refreshing new metaphorical look at Classicism; revamped by elements of Popular Culture - resurrecting High Art, by taking out its brain, like Dr Frankenstein, and putting it into the body of a punkish Trash Aesthete - switching on the twin mirrows of eternality.
