I have always aspired to create art, but to now have the opportunity to use what I have learned in the field of graphic design is an exciting stage in my life. After raising a large and incredibly creative and humorous brood of children it has widened my horizons and broadened my outlook. They have encouraged me to follow my dreams. So now I find myself at the threshold of a new journey in art, here's hoping you'll join me.
Biography: My name is Tami Thompson, I am 47 years old and I live with my family on a ranch in southern Oregon We live not far from Bonanza and this is where our 5 youngest children attend school. We have 7 older children and three of them are currently attending university or college in Nevada. Our oldest son Jacob is a graduate of University of Idaho. We have 5 grandchildren with two on the way and a house full of love and always excitement with school sports and the ranching lifestyle supplying a never-ending schedule of events.
I began my education in 1978 in LaGrande, Oregon at Eastern Oregon State College majoring in Commercial Art.
I attended one full year and the first semester of my second year before my husband, Mike and I started our family of twelve children. The next 28 years were pretty much consumed with raising and educating 12 children. To say the least our life is quite busy with school activities as well as ranch work.
Two years ago I had the opportunity to take training from a graphic designer, Ted Kranz who owns Supreme Graphics a print company in Northern California. He was in need of in house designers and offered a training course. This was a very informal approach for learning this career and I have recognized the need to go to an established institution and receive a degree in Graphic Design.
I chose the Art Institute of Pittsburgh because of its unique online degrees that specialize in Art as well as its high standards and quality among education institutions. Because of our location at the time, we lived 4-5 hours from any university or college in the heart of Nevada; the need to complete my education via the Internet became apparent. We recently moved to Oregon this past year and I continue to freelance with Supreme Graphics on an occasional basis.
For the past 5 years I have volunteered at our local schools to teach art to elementary through high school students on a one-day per week schedule and find it fulfilling and enjoyable work.
